Thuringia endorse a unique history. Interestingly, during the 17th century it was divided into more than 20 states and until 1919 it consisted of seven earldoms and one prussian municipality. Most of the less than 2.5 million inhabitants live in villages with less than 2000 inhabitants. The most famous castle in the region is off course the "Wart burg" near Eisenach , where Walther von der Vogelweide, Wolfram von Eschenbach, Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia and Martin Luther once lived.

Few cities that has gained important place in Germany tourism are Goethe and Schiller as they are rich in German literature and culture. Other tourist destinations that are worth exploring are Naumburg and its enchanting cathedral or Erfurt, the biggest city of Thuringia.
