Festivals of Munich

The Beer Festival
This festival is held in March every month with the beginning of strong bear season. The traditional serving of spring strong beer in Munich begins every year after the end of Fasching and lasts about three weeks during Lent. The people of Munich are indebted to the monks for this "spring health cure", who since time immemorial had brewed an especially nourishing beer during Lent to strengthen their bodies weakened by fasting.


The Oktoberfest
The Oktoberfest is held in September every year with the conventional call "Ozapft, the Lord Mayor opens the Oktoberfest at 12 noon. The biggest fest in the world conventionally takes place at the foot of the Bavaria statue. For over two weeks the visitors will stream onto the Wiesn, where the Oktober always takes place, to try out the new and old fairground amusements and to enjoy beer and food in the beer tents.

The Christmas Festival
This festival is held with full vigor in the month of December. Munich's conventional Christmas Market takes place on the Marienplatz. A huge Christmas tree decorated with lights towers over the Yuletide magic of the vendors' stalls.
