Health Precaution For Travellers to Germany
There are few preventive measures that a traveler need to take while traveling in Western Europe and it all depends on the areas your visit and the duration of your stay. For most areas of this region, you should observe health precautions similar to those that would apply while traveling in the United States or any other country.
For all health requirements and recommendations travelers should check with a local Department of Health clinic or U.S Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Some of the diseases from which the traveler should take precautions are:
Diarrhea
The number one illness found in travelers is diarrhea and can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites, that contaminate food or water. Infections due to these pathogens may cause diarrhea and vomiting, fever like the typhoid fever and toxoplasmosis, or hepatitis.
Tick borne Encephalitis
The second disease from which the traveler should take precautions is Tick borne encephalitis, a viral infection of the central nervous system, that mainly occur in Central and Western Europe. Travelers are at risk who visit or work in forested areas during the summer months and who consume unpasteurized dairy products. The vaccine for this disease is not available in the United States at this time. To prevent tick borne encephalitis, as well as the Lyme disease, travelers should take precautions to prevent tick bites.
Things that traveler should bring with them:
Deet contained Insect repellent
Bed nets impregnated with permethrin.
Flying-insect spray or mosquito coils to help clear rooms of mosquitoes. The product should contain a pyrethroid insecticide; these insecticides quickly kill flying insects, including mosquitoes.
Over-the-counter anti diarrheal medicine to take if you have diarrhea.
Iodine tablets and water filters to purify water if bottled water is not available. Sunblock, sunglasses and hat
Prescription medications, make sure you have enough to last during your trip, as well as a copy of the prescription.
